Community Guide

Welcome to the Community

The Community page is your home base on FameWeaver -- the place where writers, readers, and creative professionals come together. Whether you are here to share your latest work, discover new stories, participate in challenges, or connect with other members, everything starts here.

This guide walks you through every feature on the page so you can get the most out of your experience. Use the table of contents on the left (or the "Contents" button on mobile) to jump to any section.

What you will find on this page

  • --A rotating community ticker at the top highlighting top stories, leaders, new members, and announcements
  • --Flash Challenges -- quick, time-limited competitions you can enter for instant rewards
  • --Spotlights and Announcements from the FameWeaver team
  • --Community Discussions -- post, reply, and engage across multiple categories
  • --A Find Members panel to search, filter, follow, and message other users
  • --Quick-access navigation to your Profile, Notifications, Bookmarks, Messages, Contests, and Collaborations

Community Ticker

At the top of the Community page, you will see a rotating ticker banner -- a scrolling ribbon that cycles through different categories of community highlights. Think of it as a live news crawl for the FameWeaver community.

Ticker Modes

The ticker automatically rotates through these modes (when data is available):

  • --Top Stories -- The highest-scored stories on the platform, showing title, author, score, and genre. These are ranked by StorySense score.
  • --Top Badge Earners -- Members who have earned the most badges. Badges are awarded for writing milestones, community participation, reading goals, and more.
  • --Top Felix Stars -- Members with the most Felix Stars, the community's reward currency earned through discussions, challenges, and engagement.
  • --Contest Winners -- Recent writing contest winners and their winning stories.
  • --Featured Stories -- Stories hand-picked or algorithmically highlighted for the community.
  • --New Members -- The newest users to join FameWeaver, so you can welcome them and check out their profiles.
  • --Announcements -- Official messages from the FameWeaver team about platform updates, events, and news.
  • --Top Reviewers -- Members who give the most feedback and reviews on other people's stories.
  • --Top Readers -- The most active readers on the platform.

Tip

Click View Full Leaderboard in the ticker area to see the complete rankings for each category on a dedicated page.

Leaderboard

The View Full Leaderboard link in the ticker area takes you to a dedicated leaderboard page where you can see detailed rankings across multiple categories.

How Rankings Work

  • --Stories are ranked by their StorySense score -- a comprehensive analysis of craft, marketability, and production readiness
  • --Badge Earners are ranked by total number of badges earned across all categories (writing, reading, community, challenges)
  • --Felix Stars are ranked by total stars accumulated through community participation
  • --Rankings update in real time as members earn new scores, badges, and stars

How to climb the leaderboard

  • --Write stories and run StorySense to get high scores
  • --Participate in community discussions to earn Felix Stars
  • --Complete writer and reader goals to earn badges
  • --Enter Flash Challenges for bonus rewards

Flash Challenges

Flash Challenges are quick, time-limited competitions that appear on the Community page. They might be trivia questions about writing craft, creative prompts, or other fun challenges. Each one has a countdown timer -- once the timer hits zero, the challenge closes.

How to Participate

  • 1.Look for the Flash Challenge card on the Community page -- it will have a yellow lightning bolt icon and a countdown timer showing how much time is left
  • 2.Read the challenge prompt or question carefully
  • 3.Type your answer or response in the input field and click Submit
  • 4.You will immediately see if your response earned a reward

Rewards

Flash Challenge rewards can include:

  • --Felix Stars -- Community reward currency that boosts your leaderboard standing
  • --FameCred -- Platform credits you can use for StorySense analysis, boosts, and premium features
  • --Crates -- Mystery reward packages containing a mix of stars, credits, and other bonuses

Tip

Flash Challenges are announced in the ticker and through notifications. Turn on Flash Challenge notifications in your settings so you never miss one.

Spotlights & Announcements

Above the discussion feed, you may see Spotlight banners -- these are highlighted cards posted by the FameWeaver team to feature important content and platform news.

Types of Spotlights

  • --Featured Story Spotlights -- A story the team wants to highlight for the community. Click the card to read the featured story.
  • --Announcements -- Platform updates, new feature launches, policy changes, event notifications, and other important news from the FameWeaver team.
  • --Community Spotlights -- Highlighting exceptional community members, milestones, or achievements.

Spotlights appear prominently and rotate through the ticker as well, so you will see them in multiple places.

Community Discussions

The heart of the Community page is the discussion feed -- a place to post, reply, and engage with other members. Discussions are organized into categories, each designed for a different type of conversation.

Discussion Categories

  • --General (Engagement) -- Open discussion about anything related to writing, reading, and the creative life
  • --Writing Craft (Engagement) -- Talk about technique, structure, character development, dialogue, pacing, and the art of writing
  • --Tips & Tricks (Collaboration) -- Share and discover writing tips, productivity hacks, tools, and workflows
  • --Encouragement (Community) -- Uplift fellow writers. Share wins, celebrate milestones, or offer support when the writing gets tough
  • --Feedback (Social) -- Request feedback on your work or offer constructive feedback to others
  • --Off Topic (Social) -- Everything else -- movies, music, life, humor, and anything not directly about writing
  • --Reading Recs (Community) -- Recommend books, stories, and authors you love. Discover your next great read.
  • --Book Clubs (Community) -- Organize or join group reading experiences. Discuss books together chapter by chapter.

Creating a Discussion Post

  • 1.Click the New Post button at the top of the discussion feed
  • 2.Choose a category for your post from the dropdown
  • 3.Write your title and content
  • 4.Click Post to publish it to the community feed

Engaging with Posts

  • --Reply -- Click on any discussion to open it, then type your reply at the bottom. Conversations are threaded so you can follow the flow.
  • --Like -- Show appreciation for a post or reply by clicking the heart icon. Likes are visible to the community.
  • --Bookmark -- Save a discussion for later by clicking the bookmark icon on the card (see the Bookmarks section below).

Felix Stars & Rewards

Active participation in community discussions earns you Felix Stars -- the community's reward currency. The more you engage, the more stars you earn. Felix Stars contribute to your leaderboard ranking, unlock achievements, and show that you are an active, valued member of the community.

Creating thoughtful posts, providing helpful replies, and consistent engagement all contribute to your Felix Stars balance. You can see your total on your profile and in the leaderboard.

Find Members

On the right side of the Community page (or below the discussions on mobile), you will find the Find Members panel. This is your directory for discovering other users on FameWeaver.

Searching for Members

  • --Type a name or username in the search box to find specific members
  • --Results update as you type, showing matching usernames and display names

Filtering by Vertical

Use the Verticals dropdown to filter members by their role:

  • --Writer -- Members who have the Writer role
  • --Reader -- Members who have the Reader role
  • --Both -- Members who have both Writer and Reader roles

The Color Legend

Below the filter, you will see colored dots next to vertical names. These same colors appear as small dots next to each member in the list:

  • -- Blue = Writer
  • -- Green = Reader

Coming Soon: Actor and Representative verticals will be added in a future update.

The Member List

  • --Each member card shows their avatar, display name, username, and role color dots
  • --A green dot on their avatar means they are currently online
  • --Click any member to go to their public profile
  • --Use the page controls at the bottom to browse through all members

Following & Followers

FameWeaver has a follow system that lets you keep track of members whose work and activity you are interested in.

How to Follow Someone

  • --Visit their public profile (click their name in the member list, a discussion, or anywhere their name appears)
  • --Click the Follow button on their profile
  • --The button changes to Following to confirm
  • --To unfollow, click the button again

What Following Does

  • --You will see their activity and new stories more prominently
  • --Your follower count and following count appear on your profile, visible to other members
  • --If you follow someone and they follow you back, you have a mutual connection

Being Followed

  • --When someone follows you, your follower count goes up
  • --A higher follower count is a sign of community engagement and can help your visibility
  • --You can see who follows you on your profile page

Member Profiles

Clicking on any member's name or avatar takes you to their public profile page. This is how other people see you too -- so it is worth understanding what is displayed.

What you will see on a profile

  • --Avatar and display name -- Their profile photo and chosen display name
  • --Username -- Their unique @username
  • --Bio -- A short description they have written about themselves
  • --Online status -- A green dot if they are currently active on FameWeaver
  • --Role indicators -- Colored dots showing their verticals (Writer, Reader, etc.)
  • --Writer Level -- Level 1 (Newcomer), Level 2 (Established), or Level 3 (Expert), based on their writing activity
  • --Stat cards -- Stories written, total words, top StorySense scores, writing streak
  • --Badges -- Earned achievements displayed in Writer and Reader tabs
  • --Published stories -- Stories they have chosen to display on their profile
  • --Follow / Message buttons -- Follow them or start a direct message conversation

Your own profile

To see your own profile as others see it, click Profile in the Community quick-links strip. Only stories you have set to "show on profile" will be visible. Click "Public Profile Guide" on your profile page for a detailed breakdown of every element.

Messages

FameWeaver has a private direct messaging system for 1-on-1 conversations with other members. Messages are completely private -- only you and the other person can see them.

Starting a Conversation

  • --Visit any user's public profile and click the Message button
  • --Or click Messages in the Community quick-links strip and use the New Conversation button
  • --Messages can be up to 5,000 characters

Your Inbox

  • --All your conversations are listed with the other person's name, avatar, last message, and timestamp
  • --Unread conversations are highlighted so you can spot new messages
  • --Click into any conversation to see the full history and reply
  • --New messages are checked automatically every 10 seconds

Author Feedback Replies

When you leave feedback on a story (comments or annotations) and the author replies to your feedback, their reply is automatically delivered to your Messages inbox as a direct message. This ensures you never miss an author's response -- even if you do not revisit the story page.

Likewise, if you are an author and you reply to reader feedback on your story, your response is sent directly to that reader's Messages.

Unread Count Badge

When you have unread messages, a pink badge with a number appears on the Network tab in the top navigation bar showing your unread message count (e.g., "3" if you have 3 unread). This badge updates automatically.

Privacy

You can disable messaging entirely in Settings > Privacy (Allow Messages toggle). If turned off, other users will see a notice that you are not accepting messages. You can also control email alerts for new messages in Settings > Notifications (Message Notifications toggle).

Bookmarks

Bookmarks let you save community discussions for later so you can easily find them again.

How Bookmarks Work

  • --On any discussion card in the Community feed, look for the bookmark icon (small flag) on the bottom-right
  • --Click it once to bookmark -- the icon turns blue and fills in
  • --Click again to remove the bookmark -- it goes back to gray
  • --Click Bookmarks in the quick-links strip to see all your saved discussions in one place
  • --Clicking a bookmarked discussion takes you back to the Community page and opens it so you can read and reply

Notifications

Your notification center has two tabs: Activity and Replies.

Activity Tab

System notifications triggered by your actions on the platform:

  • --Goal Completed -- When you complete a writer or reader goal. Shows Felix Stars earned.
  • --Goal Progress -- When you hit 50% on a goal. A "keep going" nudge.
  • --Reader Activity -- Book finished, new genre explored, or review submitted.
  • --Reading Streak -- When your reading streak hits a new milestone.
  • --Badge Earned -- When the platform awards you a new badge.
  • --Flash Challenge -- When a live challenge goes active on the platform.
  • --Content Vault -- Access requests, grants, denials, and ownership transfers for your vault content.

Replies Tab

Shows replies to your community discussion posts. Each card displays the sender's name, avatar, their reply, and which discussion thread it belongs to. These always appear regardless of notification settings.

Notification Settings

You control which notifications you receive. Go to Settings > Notifications to manage your preferences:

  • --Email Notifications -- Master toggle for all email updates
  • --Contest Alerts -- New contests matching your profile
  • --Weekly Digest -- Summary of your activity and recommendations
  • --Message Notifications -- Email alerts for new messages
  • --New Chapter Alerts -- Stories you follow publish new chapters
  • --Reading Reminders -- Gentle reminders for reading goals

Contests

Browse and enter writing contests to compete with other authors, win prizes, and gain recognition. The Contests page shows all currently active contests along with their requirements and deadlines.

Browsing Contests

  • --Click Contests in the quick-links strip (or visit the Contests page from the top navigation)
  • --You will see all active contests as cards, each showing the title, description, prize pool, deadline, number of participants, and genre
  • --Use the filter buttons at the top to narrow contests by genre or content type (Prose, Screenplay, etc.)
  • --Your current average StorySense score is displayed at the top so you can see which contests you may qualify for

Eligibility Requirements

Each contest has specific requirements your story must meet:

  • --Minimum StorySense Score -- Your story must have been scored and meet the contest's threshold
  • --Word Count Range -- Your story's word count must fall within the contest's limits
  • --Genre -- Your story's genre must match (some contests accept all genres)
  • --Content Type -- Your story type (prose, screenplay, novel, etc.) must match

How to Enter -- Step by Step

  • 1.Find a contest and click Enter Contest. You will be prompted to log in if needed.
  • 2.The Contest Entry page shows the requirements at the top: minimum score, word count range, deadline, and genre.
  • 3.Below the requirements, you will see your eligible stories -- only stories meeting ALL requirements appear.
  • 4.Click the story you want to submit. Each card shows title, genre, word count, score, and type.
  • 5.Click Submit Entry to officially enter.
  • 6.You will see a confirmation screen -- you are in!

Important Notes

  • --You can keep improving your story and StorySense score after entering -- your latest score is used for judging
  • --You can only enter one story per contest
  • --If none of your stories are eligible, go to the Writer's Hub to create or improve a story
  • --View all your entries anytime at My Entries from the Contests page

No Eligible Stories?

Common reasons a story may not qualify:

  • --Score too low -- Run StorySense to get a score, or revise and rescore
  • --Word count out of range -- Add or trim content to fit
  • --Genre mismatch -- Make sure genres match
  • --Wrong content type -- Some contests are prose-only or screenplay-only

Collaborations

Work together with other writers on stories and screenplays. The Collaboration Hub lets you invite team members, manage edit access, share documents, and open stories in the appropriate editor. Requires a Professional subscription.

Getting Started

  • --Click Collaborations in the quick-links strip (requires Professional subscription)
  • --You will see the Collaboration Hub with tabs for Workspace and Discover
  • --The Invite Collaborator button lets you search for other Professional-tier users and invite them to work on your stories

Collaboration Roles

When inviting someone, you assign them one of three roles:

  • --Co-Writer -- Can edit the story content directly in the Story Editor or Script Editor. Edit access is controlled by the Pen system (see below). Co-Writers can only edit when they hold the Pen.
  • --Editor -- Opens the story in the Book Editor for review. Can leave annotations, redline comments, and inline feedback. Cannot edit story content directly.
  • --Beta Reader -- Same access as Editor. Opens the story in the Book Editor to read and leave feedback through annotations and comments.

The Pen System (Co-Writer Edit Access)

To prevent two people from editing at the same time, FameWeaver uses a Pen system -- only the person holding the Pen can save changes.

  • 1.By default, the story owner holds the Pen
  • 2.The owner can Grant the Pen to a Co-Writer. The Co-Writer receives a direct message letting them know.
  • 3.While a Co-Writer holds the Pen, they have full edit access. The owner's editor becomes read-only until the Pen is returned.
  • 4.The Co-Writer can Release the Pen back to the owner when done. The owner is notified via direct message.
  • 5.The owner can also Reclaim the Pen at any time if needed.

The Workspace

Click into any story in the Workspace tab to open its collaboration room:

  • --Team -- See all collaborators, their roles, and status
  • --Pen Status -- See who holds edit access and grant/reclaim/release the Pen
  • --Editor Links -- Color-coded buttons to open the story in the right editor:

Purple = Script Editor (for screenplays)

Blue = Story Editor (for prose/novels)

Green = Book Editor (for reading, annotations, and redline feedback)

  • --Shared Documents -- Upload and share reference files with your team
  • --Activity Feed -- See recent collaboration events (invites accepted, pen transfers, etc.)

Important Notes

  • --Only the story owner can run StorySense scoring, boost unlocks, and paid analysis tools. Collaborators cannot use the owner's FameCred.
  • --Both the inviter and invitee must have Professional subscriptions to use collaborations.
  • --Invitations appear in the recipient's collaboration workspace under the Pending section where they can accept or decline.

Privacy & Settings

FameWeaver gives you full control over your privacy. All privacy settings are managed from Settings > Privacy. Here is what each setting does:

Profile Visibility

Controls who can see your profile page:

  • --Public (default) -- Anyone on FameWeaver can view your profile, stories, badges, and stats
  • --Connections Only -- Only people you follow (and who follow you back) can see your full profile
  • --Private -- Your profile is hidden from other users. Only your username is visible in discussions and the member list.

Activity Toggles

  • --Show Activity -- When on, other members can see your recent activity (stories published, badges earned, discussions posted). When off, your activity is hidden from your profile.
  • --Allow Messages -- When on, any member can send you a direct message. When off, the Message button on your profile is disabled and others see a notice that you are not accepting messages.
  • --Match Me (StorySense) -- When on, StorySense may match you with other writers for feedback exchanges and collaboration suggestions based on your writing style and interests.
  • --Auto-Connect (StorySense) -- When on, StorySense can automatically suggest connections with compatible writers. When off, you will only connect with people you manually follow or message.
  • --Show Winner Profile -- When on, if you win a contest, your profile will be featured in the winner announcement. When off, your win is still recorded but your profile will not be highlighted.
  • --Show Reading Stats -- When on, your reading statistics (books read, genres explored, reading streak) are visible on your profile. When off, these stats are hidden.
  • --Show Reading Lists -- When on, your reading lists and "to read" queue are visible to others. When off, your reading lists are private.
